The "Kedarnath Yatra" refers to a pilgrimage to the Kedarnath Temple, a highly revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the Char Dhams (four holy sites) and one of the Panch Kedars, making it a significant pilgrimage for Hindus. The journey often involves trekking from Gaurikund, a town accessible by road, to the temple, which sits at an altitude of 3,586 meters.
The journey begins with an early morning departure from Delhi in a private vehicle. En route, there will be a stop for breakfast at a highway restaurant. By evening, travelers will arrive in Haridwar and check into the hotel. After freshening up, they will proceed to Har Ki Pauri to witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti, a spiritually uplifting experience on the banks of the holy Ganges. Later, they can explore the local market and enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant before retiring for the night at the hotel.
After an early morning breakfast, the journey continues towards Guptkashi, passing through the scenic towns of Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet, and Rudraprayag, the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. A lunch stop at a roadside restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan landscape. By late afternoon, travelers will arrive in Guptkashi and check into the hotel. After some rest, they will visit the ancient Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel in Guptkashi.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, travelers will depart for Sonprayag, a 30 km drive from Guptkashi. From Sonprayag, they will take a shared local taxi to Gaurikund, the starting point of the 14 km trek to Kedarnath. The trek, which takes approximately 4-5 hours, offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and passes by Bhim Shila, a massive rock believed to have protected the Kedarnath Temple during the devastating floods. Upon arrival in Kedarnath, travelers will check into a guesthouse or lodge, freshen up, and proceed for the evening Aarti and darshan at the revered Kedarnath Temple. The night will be spent in Kedarnath, enveloped in divine serenity.
The day begins with an early morning darshan at Kedarnath Temple, followed by breakfast. After a spiritually enriching experience, travelers will begin the trek back to Sonprayag, covering 14 km in approximately 4-5 hours. Upon reaching Sonprayag, they will take a vehicle back to Guptkashi. After checking into the hotel, they can relax and rejuvenate after the long trek. The evening is free for leisure, allowing travelers to soak in the tranquil beauty of the region. Dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel conclude the day.
After breakfast, the journey back to Haridwar begins. En route, travelers will once again pass through Devprayag and Rudraprayag, witnessing the confluence of sacred rivers. A stop for lunch at a local restaurant will provide an opportunity to relish the flavors of the region. By evening, travelers will reach Haridwar and check into the hotel. They can spend the evening exploring nearby temples or strolling through the bustling markets. An overnight stay in Haridwar marks the penultimate day of the journey.
The final day of the journey begins with an optional early morning bath in the holy Ganges. After breakfast, travelers will depart for Delhi, making stops for refreshments and lunch along the way.
